SELF DRIVE WITH BED & BREAKFAST ACCOMMODATION - NEW ZEALAND

Both the North and South Islands are ideal for independent travel based on a rental car and delightful bed & breakfast type accommodation. Small, clean & comfortable you will always be welcome at over 500 properties throughout the country and a sumptuous breakfast awaits you each morning. To help you plan we have designed two itineraries and selected the best properties. Try our set itineraries On each of the set itineraries we have included a Farm stay, a unique opportunity for you to experience the New Zealand lifestyle as you dine with your hosts in the evening.

FREE STYLE (First night only booked) 8 DAYS 7 NIGHTS

Costs are based on open vouchers for 7 nights and an 8 day medium category automatic rental car. We prebook your first nights accommodation and you are free to plan your own itinerary based on your copy of the New Zealand Bed & Breakfast book. We will express mail a copy to your home address upon receipt of your deposit. ( allow 5 days to receive from our US mailing house) Extra night and car rates allow you to extend and travel through both Islands.

We have established two set itinerary programmes which highlight the very best of both islands. Either North or South Island or combine the two for the best of New Zealand. We will choose the best Bed and Breakfast accommodation for you so that you can relax and enjoy your self drive holiday.


 

Suggested Set Itinerary: North Island

Day 1.Auckland

On arrival you will be met and provided with complete documentation for your rental car. Drive the short distance to your Auckland B&B accommodations.

North Island

Day 2.Auckland - (Coromandel area) (160 Km)

Leave the city behind now that your are relaxed and ready to explore the beautiful North Island countryside. Destination today will be the resort area of the Coromanel where a special welcome awaits you as you check in to your home style accommodation.

Day 3.It is an easy drive to explore the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula. One of New Zealand's best kept scenic secrets the magnificent coastline has the unique hot water beach has warm water just below the surface sand so you can scoop your own spa.
Day 4.Coromandel - Rotorua (220 Km)

Visit the Bay of Plenty, the heart of "kiwi fruit" country. Sample the local produce before continuing on to the thermal capital of Rotorua. Spend this evening on a local farm, dine with your hosts and discuss first hand the Kiwi lifestyle.

Dinner is included this evening. Farm stay.

Day 5.Rotorua

Spend the day exploring the local sights, visit Whakarewarewa, The Maori Arts & Crafts Institute and Paradise Valley Springs.

Day 6.Rotorua - Napier (230 km)

Travel via the shores of Lake Taupo, the North Islands largest lake and over to the East Coast and Hawkes Bay, another off the beaten track area for you to explore. Napier is the art deco capital of the world and its unique architecture is a must see.

The area around Napier features some of New Zealand's best vineyards so spend some time sampling the local produce. Another unique attraction in the area is the large gannet colony located at Cape Kidnappers, a worthwhile excursion.

Day 7.Napier - Masterton (235 Km)

Continue traveling south through Hawkes Bay to the Wairarapa province and the town of Masterton. Another warm welcome awaits you at your preselected Bed and Breakfast accommodation.

Day 8.Masterton - Wellington - Departure (100 Km)

It in only a short drive over the Rimutaka Ranges to the nations capital city, Wellington. Here you will return your rental car at the airport. You may be departing the country but if you are continuing to the South Island another car will be available for you.

 

Suggested Set Itinerary: South Island

Day 1.Christchurch

On arrival you will be met and complete documentation for your rental car. Drive the short distance to your Christchurch B&B accommodations.

South Island

Day 2.Christchurch - Dunedin (360 Km)

Travel south over the Canterbury plains to the southern capital of Dunedin where a warm welcome awaits you at your preselected bed and breakfast accommodations.

Day 3.Dunedin

The Otago peninsula offers a day of fascinating sights. Visit Lanarch Castle, the Royal Albatross colony, the largest mainland colony of these giant birds in the world. The endangered Yellow-eyed penguin conservatory is nearby and well worth a visit.

Day 4.Dunedin - Te Anau (290 Km)

Drive south to Balclutha before heading across Southland to the Fiordland National Park and your overnight Farm stay near Te Anau. A chance to experience the Kiwi lifestyle as you dine with your hosts this evening.

Day 5.Te Anau - Milford Sound - Queenstown (410 Km)

One of the treasures in the Fiordland National Park is magnificent Milford Sound a short and spectacular drive from Te Anau. Take a cruise on the sound, enjoy a delightful smorgasbord lunch and drive to Queenstown in the afternoon where another warm welcome awaits you at your bed and breakfast accommodation.

Day 6.Queenstown

Today is yours to choose from the many activities available in New Zealand's premier resort. From the thrill of the Shotover Jetboat ride, the excitement of the Skyline Gondola to a tranquil cruise on lake Wakatipu, there is something for everyone.

Day 7.Queenstown - Mount Cook - Geraldine (460 Km)

A truly spectacular drive today as you return north towards Christchurch. En route is Mount Cook the highest mountain in New Zealand. Time for you to explore the area, visit the terminal face of the Tasman Glacier or take a scenic flight with a snow landing high up on the glacier, a wonderful option for a closer look at Mount Cook and the glacier. Your evening bed and breakfast awaits you near Geraldine, a short distance from Christchurch.

Day 8.Geraldine - Christchurch - Departure (140 Km)

Time to return your car to Christchurch airport to board your departure flight.
